Curtains Drawn

Posted by: willofthemansion

Traditionally, every year when the snow begins to fall and the city becomes louder with celebration, the Will decides to throw a party for the celebration of Yule. Every year the party had become more lively, every inch of the mansion decorated with bows and lights and flowers and wreathes. Tall, decorated trees stood in every sitting room, candies and garlands strung on every branch.

This year, however, things are different. Quiet. The halls are silent and dim with candlelight, and the only flowers present are in vases set on tables, and only one room has a decorated tree within it. The ballroom is locked, a quiet sign, maybe, of just how much things have changed.

All who have remained so far in this world will feel inclined on this day to visit. Maybe it's a feeling of nostalgia, or a sudden realization that Yule is upon us and the yearly party should be taking place. The largest sitting room on the first floor is where they'll find the only decorations, but they're still just as grand as one would expect of a noble house. The tree is fresh and festive, there are gifts with people's names written across the wrapping paper (some names are of people long since absent, or ones that had never arrived at all) and there's a modest table with food set up near a cozy fireplace. It's a much more intimate, quiet setting than in years past, and the atmosphere that surrounds it is one of calming nostalgia.

There's no music tonight, no dancing. But it's warm and comfortable and welcoming, as it has been every year. The locals haven't shown up this evening either, choosing to stay home instead. They can't even be found wondering the streets or at any of the local attractions, though the lights in their houses are still on should you pass by the village on the road to the mansion.

The quiet makes time feel like it's moving slower, and if you pay attention, you might even hear the grandfather clock in the hallway skip a beat or two.

After dinner has been eaten and presents have been unwrapped, the guests will all suddenly begin to feel sleepy. Maybe they've had too much to drink, maybe it's just long past their bedtime, or maybe they fear that they've been drugged, but it's a welcome sleep. Something that a lot of them have desired for years. An escape, a change, a promise of something better. Whatever that end might be, each person embraces it like an absent loved one.

And through the hallways, the sound of footsteps grows quieter and quieter as the Will extinguishes each candle, one by one, until the building, and then the world, goes completely dark.

[ooc - I'd like to say that I wrote this final post with a heavy heart, but the truth is that my heart has always been light, and that's in no small part to each and every one of you. In all the years that we've written together, I've been grateful to every single person I've written with, every thread, every word, every explosion, every plot twist and heartbreak and alternate universe and ambitious new idea. I could not have asked for a more incredible group of people to share this fandom with, so thank you to everyone who has ever posted to this dressing room, either on LJ or here in our new home on DW. I adore you all so much for your support and your kindness and your maddeningly impressive and inspiring creativity.

Thank you, thank you, thank you.

- your humble and embarrassing moderator]

comments

Do you hear the people sing? Singing the song of angry men...?

Posted by: fallingbackup

One morning, quite suddenly, there isn't any food, and that's how it starts. Pantries that were full the day before contain merely scraps; restaurants find their larders empty, and the marketplaces seem to be picked over but for the worst of their stock. Outside of the city, farmers who only recently celebrated their first harvests find their crops plagued by pests and vermin. Cheeses and milk spoil and the livestock begin to disappear, taken by predators or simply wandering away through holes in fences that certainly weren't there before.

Autumn is swift approaching, but it isn't here yet. The days are still hot. The sun beats down mercilessly, and there's no sign of any rain to cool rising tempers.

Whether it's the sudden onslaught of the famine or the interference of the Will of this place, who can say? The mansion's kitchen blew up again recently, so she may well be trying to teach some sort of lesson, or the damage to the hub of the place may have simply spread on its own. Regardless, the usual results of starvation set in with alarming rapidity. Parents worry for their crying children, and then for themselves. The magical influence that was obviously responsible for this has nerves high and suspicions higher. And, as the scraps that remain are quickly fought over and devoured -- as riots rage in the streets and looters attempt to take what they can -- the people of the city begin searching for someone to blame. Eyes begin to turn toward the local nobles, especially the strange ones who come with whispers of monsters, and all their fine clothing and riches. Surely they must be hiding resources that should be split among all of the people in this time of need...

Within a few days, there's a guillotine in the town square.

[Mod approved event! It's been a while since we razed the place to the ground or slaughtered a bunch of people at once, so have at. As usual, everything will be back to normal in a week or so.]

comments

HEAT WAAAAAAAVE! Dis is my island in de sun --

Posted by: bittybratty

So you all remember how last winter everybody complained about how cold it was, and how they couldn't wait for summer when it would once again be nice and warm and bright?

Yeah, the Will heard it, and she's being a brat about it. Welcome to the first heat wave of the summer! You lot wanted it to be warm, so now it is, with temperatures soaring up into the mid 30's in the shade and a delightful dose of humidity to go with it. (That's in Celsius, of course, since we all probably live in Europe, here.) All over town, people are wilting like dying flowers. Since it's impossible to get a breeze inside, obviously the solution is to be out, and so the world has responded with as energetic a festival as it's able to muster. The streets are lined with tents, the iceboxes are chugging away, and the ice cream people are making a killing. Kitchens have emptied in favor of barbecues and you aren't going to be able to walk anywhere without bumping into a huge hat or a parasol, and given the way people keep collapsing of heat stroke, there are actually doctors wandering the streets to badger anyone who looks a bit peaked into sitting down and having a drink.

Well? Toasty enough for you?

[Mix and mingle with a stinky, sweaty beat, yo.
there are so many reasons for this and one of them is sarah

So far he has managed to not be caught by a certain psychopath's spidery hands and even managed to find something to eat.

(Sure, it was in a bin, and there were rats around, but beggars can't be choosers.)

And so, the bitty sort-of cleans himself off, wiping his hand on a shirt that is far too large and baggy for him to wear, and has probably been worn for weeks. He keeps himself close to the businesses, ready to pickpocket anyone who he deems to be easy enough.

So, who's going to make his day <strike>worse</strike> even better?

comments

Here I come, but I ain't the same

Posted by: almost_elderly

Almost a month ago now, the Break who has come to be known as the "elder Break" or the "funny-talking Break" -- depending who you ask -- vanished. Given the warm weather and relative happiness of recent events, his absence must have been painfully noticeable, if you're one of those people into whose business he likes to stick his nose. If nothing else, things have been quiet, without Break there to pull Liam away from his work or show up to see if anyone is baking anything tasty. You can say what you will about this Break, but he certainly knows how to liven a place up.

Today, that Break wakes up in the field of singing flowers out by the mansion.

When he sits up, at first glance, it almost looks like there's a Kevin sitting there -- the old ponytail of ages past has returned, and it slithers over the man's shoulder to hang long down his back as he moves. But no, it's not a Kevin. Break dresses the same as he did before, and the glasses are still perched on his nose. He's just older. His left arm is completely covered in tattoos now, and the lines that were starting to come in around his eye are far more obvious. There are new ones around his mouth. They show the most when he smiles. He smiles now, glancing at his surroundings. His memories from before are already trickling back in, and as he sits still and lets them come, Break starts to realize that to him, it's been a full ten years since he was last in this place. This weekend, at least at home, he's to turn fifty-seven.

"Well," he says, amused. Then he just sits, leaning back on his arms, and thinks of things. He doesn't even know how much time has passed here since he went home. So, there's no rush to go and find out.

[almost_knightly, canon updated. Tags will be slow from me until next week, but as always, late, slow, and backtagging is always welcome! (And for the record, if you have to drop a thread with me, please don't hesitate to pick it up again later if you want to. It doesn't matter to me how many weeks or months have passed -- some of the threads I'm still plugging away at are a year old.)]

comments

The most magical place on Earth

Posted by: almost_knightly2

Usually, the edge of town around here is surrounded by forests, which prevent you from leaving by turning you around and bringing you right back to the city if you attempt to navigate them. Now, on one side of town, whatever is responsible for this place has instead provided a certain amusement park for its residents -- and, let's face it, probably it -- to enjoy.

Because who would ever want to leave Disneyland?

The parks are huge and sprawling, most resemblant to Disneyworld, with bits and pieces of some of the other parks thrown in here and there. Hopefully you've been learning about movies this week, Victorians, but even if you haven't, Disney is full of dreams and joy and wonder and all manner of other things that make people sick, such as the Tower of Terror after you've eaten too much funnel cake. Go! Explore, and have fun, and don't swear. That will get you kicked out of the park.

[The last of our long series of posts for this month and the end of the modern event; after this we'll take a breather and let everyone catch up. Thanks for letting me do this, folks -- I've been looking for an excuse to make a post like this for over two years now!
Let's do the time warp again!

Posted by: almost_knightly

Some of the residents around here may remember a time when the city didn't exist. There was only "The Mansion", plopped in the middle of a bunch of beautiful gardens and forests that never seemed to let anybody go. Those who've been living here that long may recall the week or two some time ago when the Mansion suddenly shot forward in time a good 150 years or so, filling with movies and radios and toasters and cars and all manner of exciting new things.

Well, that's happening again this week. And this time, there's a whole new city to be overwhelmed by. Can't handle driving a car because you're a proper Victorian? That's alright, there's a subway now that will take you anywhere you want to go, if the cabbies are too scary. Nothing interesting being put on at the local theater lately? To hell with plays; the local theater now has a dozen screens and they're playing whatever movie you damn well want them to play. There's museums full of art and history and the everyday items everyone is used to are now presented as relics, and boy, people sure are wearing a lot less fabric these days. (So are you -- your closet has been bewitched and filled with modern clothing. Sorry.) Raves, weird music, sirens; anything that you might find in a typical modern city, you now have access to it. Your house probably has televisions and computers now, and man, you people are going to love the dishwashers. Be sure to take a walk along the river after it gets dark at least once -- everybody should get to see the way a city looks when it's lit up with electricity at night.

When you're not busy making faces at mac and cheese that comes in a box or getting addicted to soda, try not to panic over doors that open automatically, and for heaven's sake, please don't drop your smartphone.

[Mod-approved event! And now they were starting to affect him during the day. It wasn't like the dreams would come back to him, but it was rather the lack of sleep he was getting. It was really starting to get to him.

To that end, the young Nightray would end up dozing off in the middle of the day.

Of course, Elliot was aware, and tried his very best to stay awake. However, what plauged him at night was eating away at him. But no-! He was determined to overcome this.

And yet he could not help but to close his eyes when he sat down in a chair in the living room.

((OOC: Here, have an Elly~))

comments

Follow the day, and reach for the sun!

Posted by: bittybratty

You've all noticed it, haven't you? The world has been warming up, little by little. The quality of the air has changed -- even when it's still freezing out, it's a little wet now, a fresh contrast to the dryness of the dead of winter. There may still be cold snaps now and again and maybe even another bout of snow before winter fully gives up, but spring is well on its way, and today it's just warm enough that you might feel a little too warm in your coat if you stand in the sun.

The Will, of course, will take any excuse to celebrate. No festivals today, but in the gardens on the mansion grounds, an outdoor tea party is well underway. Long tables are set out with beautiful white lace tablecloths and all manner of teas, cookies, sandwiches, candy, and though there aren't any flowers in full bloom yet, the party is surrounded by the sprouts of the first adventurous tulips battling their way out of the ground. Somewhere close by, some of the singing flowers are starting to come out of hibernation -- you may hear them muttering to themselves if you wander close. It's pleasant and it's quiet and it's calm, and the Will has made up for it by planting not one, but two curses in the midst of the tea party.

Beware the chocolate eggs. They might leave you alone. They might turn you into a baby animal of some sort, for the sole reason that baby animals are cute. You should beware the tea, too. Depending what kind you have, you might find flowers growing out of your hair. You might start singing everything you try to say, or talking in rhyme. Perhaps you will completely lose that filter between your brain and your mouth that censors the thoughts you don't want people to hear. Maybe you'll even shrink, and be forced to navigate the world while being only a few inches high. If there is something that could happen to you to make your life hard, there is probably a tea that will do it for you. There's probably some love tea, too, since it's been a while since the Will chucked anyone into a kissing closet and all.

Don't worry. It'll all wear off -- when the Will feels like letting it. Happy spring! Enjoy your tea.

[Mod approved post. Mingle, mingle, mingle! As with all parties, be fashionably late, if you like.]

comments

The sky had been silkscreened purple and pink, orange and yellow. The chill in the air hadn't been too harsh, the sun's unobscured heat making the late winter evening a little more bearable.

But by the time he'd picked up what he'd needed for the mansion and headed for the front door, the sun had disappeared past the horizon and the thunder had started. From nowhere the grey-black rainclouds had covered the skies and begun to pour rain and hail, shake the ground with thunder and flash painful sharp lightning to slash open the dark sky. He'd worn a coat, but he hadn't brought an umbrella with him! And the way that the wind was battering the trees and shaking the windows, he doubted it would do much good anyways.

No choice but to sit and wait for the storm to be over, Gilbert retreats into one of the sitting rooms to rest by the fireplace with a blanket curled around him. A candle on the table is casting his shadow against the nearby drapes, and idly he reaches out his hand to watch his shadow move along the wall. Ah, this is a little creepy with the noise of the storm outside, actually...

comments

Secondhand embarrassment ahoy!

He never stopped being weird, but he's familiar, at least; something you'd expect, and not be startled to run across.

You won't see the funny-talking Break today. You may, however, see a funny-talking Kevin.

He's got scary boots and jeans, just like his elder self, even if the boots are grubbier and his pants are torn at the knee. The hair is about the same length, even if it is a lot shaggier -- as though he's been growing it out for a while now, but hasn't bothered to get it trimmed neatly yet. He's got it in a ponytail to keep it out of the way, just as Break often does when he's sewing. Despite these similarities, he's a whole hell of a lot smaller. He's the same height, but his shoulders are still thin, and his eyes look a little too big for his face. He probably hit his last growth spurt recently, and the rest of him has yet to follow. The boy managed to snag a fantastic black pirate coat from wherever he popped up this morning, and he's wearing it with all the enthusiasm of a bratty kid who thinks he's hot shit, but it's so big on him that he's absolutely swimming in it and he looks more ridiculous than anything else. Underneath the coat, his t-shirt has somebody named Ozzy Osbourne on it, whoever that is. He's also got an earring in one ear, a tacky 80's thing with chains and a cross -- Break still has the piercing, but has fortunately moved on from believing himself to be as cool as Billy Idol, even if they do share a hair color.

Have fun with him, if you find him. It doesn't seem to bother him that he woke up in a stranger's house this morning and is now exploring a place he doesn't know. Obviously someone should knock some sense into him...if anybody can figure out what the hell he's saying, anyway.

[De-aging almost_knightly to 18 years old for the week, just for funzies. Feel free to find him wherever is convenient for your character. He puts his nose in all sorts of places where it doesn't go. Tags may be a little slow on my end, but slow and late people are welcome as always.]

comments

This could be the very minute I'm aware I'm alive. All these places feel like home.

Posted by: fallingbackup

"But when do I get to be general?"

"You don't, because your brother's the general. Anyway, if you want to move up in the ranks, you have to earn it."

Kevin has many reasons to be happy about the way his life is going now, despite the revelations he's been struggling with lately. It's been a little easier than he would have thought, easier than it would have been in the past -- because now, he has the support and friendship of one Glen Baskerville, and it turns out that when Glen adopts you, so does his entire family, Chains and all. This includes a tiny Lacie, who -- much like a tiny Sharon Rainsworth will, in another world -- has decided that if the knight is going to live in her house and follow her big brother around, he may as well serve as her companion and plaything.

Truth be told, Kevin doesn't mind this as much as he claims he does. The brat is funny if you provoke her just so, and rather than fuss at him for the occasional bit of sarcasm that slips out, she usually winds up agreeing with him. The books that she bullies him into reading with her are usually about adventures and fighting instead of princesses and romance, and she's got a wooden sword she likes to wave around that he's pretty sure he's going to be teaching her how to use someday. If a knight has to have a little girl following him around, this one isn't a bad one, when you get right down to it.

Today, somehow, he has managed to convince this child that "Military" will be an amusing game to play, and is laying down the rules for her.

"How? I want to get the highest rank! After general."

"You have to spend at least two weeks at each rank. You get promoted when you've proven you can follow orders from your superiors and do...you know. Important stuff. With responsibilities."

"Like what? What's first?"

"First, you can...um. Go to that drug store there, and pick up some more throat drops for me. Red ones. That's useful, and I'm one of your superiors, so."

Settled against a tree in the park, Kevin keeps an eye on her as she totters to the shop, little purse full of coins clutched fast in her little hand as she goes to complete her first mission. It's his first day out and about since that bout of influenza wiped him out a couple weeks ago, and he looks about as drained as he feels. How stupid that he should already need to sit and rest so soon after leaving the house. But even if he's a little thinner than he should be and a little too pale in the face, he looks more peaceful than usual, too. He certainly isn't ready to admit that he's happy. There's still a lot about himself that he has to come to terms with, things he isn't really sure how to settle, and those things weigh heavily on his mind. But with the acceptance of these friends who are quickly becoming family to him -- even if most of them are lunatics or bored Chains or both -- it's easier to feel like he'll be able to handle it, even if he isn't sure how just yet. If nothing else, they're giving him something he's willing to fight for, and Kevin is always at his best when he's around people worth being devoted to.

He's also looking forward to the look on the brat's face when he tells her that in order to become a colonel, she'll have to kill a centipede all by herself. He'll probably come out of that conversation with bruised shins, but it will be so worth it.

[OOC: A joint post with Kevin, formerly heart_beatings, and bittybratty. A muzzy feeling in your head, perhaps; a sore throat, a cough. A nasty fever -- chills one minute, hot flashes and sweating the next. Ahhh, 'tis the season, and this year, it's a particularly nasty strain, wiping out the young and hardy even more than the old and the small. You may have a mild case. Or, you may find yourself bleeding from the nose or the ears. You may be too delirious with fever to notice.

You may feel fine one moment, and be mostly dead the next.

If you are sick, hopefully you've got somebody to take care of you, and hopefully you don't spread it to them. It would be great to keep the illness as contained as possible. Everybody remember to wash your hands frequently, and cough into your elbows! The next couple of weeks are going to be wretched.

[ooc: Feel free to use this post for your threads, or make your own top-post!
Happy St. Bridget's Day!

Posted by: willofthemansion

That's right, everyone, it's the festive time of year when the angel Bridget comes down to earth to see her sweetheart! It's a bit questionable whether she'd have any reason to seek him out in a place like this, but apparently the city has gone all-out today just in case. The snow outside is largely melted and the landscape, while not terribly green at the moment, has been festooned with fine decorations of all sorts -- chained bird cages, streamers, ribbons and of course blue feathers. A small band in the center of the town square plays festive music throughout the day.

It's still just a little chilly yet, but the sun is shining down on the main event: a great feast laid out over several tables inside a long, feather-bedecked pavilion. There's a seemingly endless assortment of food to be had, from the usual to the extremely exotic -- ever tried giraffe meat, Alice? -- and at one end of the row of tables lies a very well-stocked bar. At the other end, there's seating for the guests, and a large area of bare tile that's been cleared of benches and plants to serve as a dance floor. The entire place is strewn with strings of twinkling lights, and blue confetti seems to be just about everywhere.

For those who want to truly get into the spirit of the day, just inside the entrance hall are rack after rack of lavish blue-feathered masks and costumes, covering everything from high-class and tasteful gowns to polka-dotted clown suits. Some people may also find they opened their closets this morning to discover them bursting with feathered garments and nothing else -- whoops! Hopefully that will get fixed by tomorrow.

And finally, don't miss the fireworks display tonight! Just after the sun sets, residents of the manor will be able to look across the nearby lake to enjoy a spectacular show of sparkling lights. This will mark the end of the official festival, but don't hesitate... it's also the perfect time to present a blue feather to that special someone!

Somewhere in the middle of the crowd, a man tells the story of St. Bridget to the children of the town.

"This festival is based on the story of Bridget - the blue-feathered angel who fell in love with a human. So that she may descend to earth with ease, the people donned blue-feathered costumes to help her hide her identity. It is said that..."

He might be droning about this a while longer. Best to ignore him and join in the festivities. The fact that he's coughing and sneezing every other sentence might be another reason to avoid him, too.

[ooc - St. Bridget's Day is here! Give your sweetheart the gift of a blue feather, or just enjoy the food! It's also the beginning of the influenza event which will get its own separate log in the next few days. Enjoy!]

comments

It has been blessedly quiet, for the most part, but at the same time it has made him keenly aware of the fact that his younger self is no longer in this world.

He never did get around to reading a lot of the books the child told him about, and so one of his projects over the past several weeks has been working through the books he can remember the boy telling him about, and looking for similar works.

It has been interesting to read books meant for youth, books often with fantastical plots and even magic at times. He occasionally reads for pleasure at home, when he has time, but rarely are the books he chooses so... well, frivolous, is what Barma might consider them.

More surprising, to him, is that he has found he rather enjoys these types of books.

Today, as he has neared the end of the list of books he can remember, Liam is looking for more interesting-seeming books.

He can be found seated cross-legged in front of a bookshelf in the library next to a growing stack of books. Among the titles can be seen The Hobbit, Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy, Twilight, among others of various genres. Not all of them are wise choices, as the titles clearly indicate.

He is currently pulling from the shelf a book whose title caught his eye. After all, he wasn't aware there could be fifty shades of grey.

Someone save him?

Well, realistically he's probably seen much better smut in the Rainsworth library, but still.

comments

Such a lovely day for a candy feast!

Posted by: a_knights_quest

Break has, actually, been here for the better part of a week. It had been rather confusing, one moment getting ready for Oz's coming of age party, the next standing on a street he's never seen before in his life. Although, with his sight getting blurry and strange he hadn't been sure at first that he hadn't just been transported by Eques into a random part of town.

But it's not for nothing that he's exchanging passionate kisses with one of Lord Barma's best intelligence agents however, he might or might not have picked up a few things about information gathering in those last few years. So he's not as confused as he was on arriving, he knows this is a nexus where many things cross, knows there are multiple version of all kinds of people, knows they're all at the whim of some Will people seem to alternatively curse and thank. What he'd really like to know is if his Liam might have ended up here as well. That's the part that presents a problem, he's seen (as much as he does see things these days) Liams here already and they don't look like his. None of them have the subtle signs of a woman undercover as a man that he's learned over the years, which makes him think that they might actually <i>be</i> men. He would start asking around for a Liam that is actually a woman, but he knows Liam will disembowel him herself if she's trying to maintain her cover and he ruins it.

And since he likes his bowls right where they are, thanks, he does what any self respecting Break would do in this sort of situation, he buys more candy than he could possibly carry by himself. He barely makes it to the nearby fountain with all the of the bags and packages and happily sets himself up to munch on the various sweets until something more interesting happens.

People walking by might or might not have candy tossed at them like it's the human version of tossing breadcrumbs to pigeons.

[OOC- Meet our resident Lady Liam's (the_smokescreen ) Xerxes Break, fresh from his own world with no idea where his own Liam might be.
Cold winter days.

It was cold, cold enough for him to see his own breath and only a little bit of snow was lying around at a few places. Good. The garden was already looking lonely and empty enough without it, there were no flowers, no leaves on the trees, the ponds were frozen and no bird was chirping. The garden looked sad and with him being the only one who currently was sitting in it, drinking a hot cup of tea, it appeared to be even more sad. Oz was wearing a black coat, a brownish scarf... perfect colors for the garden who wore the same colors.

A slight sigh escaped him and a sad looking smile appeared on his face. "This sure is a lonely day, isn't it?", talking to himself he looked up, taking a deep breath. He didn't like to be alone. As soon as he was alone he'd start thinking.. and thinking.. and thinking. About everything, everyone, the person he is, what his friends would be doing right now... he was missing them. Neither Alice nor Gil were around today. He at least didn't see them. The entire mansion seemed to be empty too. A quiet day.

Staring back at the garden, taking a sip from his tea, his expression seemed to get sadder with every second that passed. Bunnies don't like to be alone, they die if they are lonely.

[[OOC: Hello, I'm new to DW and am currently trying to get back into rping my precious stuffed bunny, it's really been a long time and a lot happened, so I kinda forgot how.. to, ahem. Anyone who might have walked past it this morning wouldn't recognize it this evening. Bright green wreathes and garlands cover the doorways and there are new, ornate candelabras and hanging from the ceiling. The heavy crimson curtains have been parted and tied back to display the large windows behind them, a fresh, snowy landscape beyond.

The fires are burning in the fireplaces and music is sounding from a nine piece orchestra near the dance floor. There's a large refreshment table that spans most of the length of the room, as well as several dining tables set up with room near the piano. An elegant feast in celebration of the winter season, the end of the year and the welcoming of longer, warmer days. A grand tree sits near one corner of the room with bright red and white glass ornaments and wrapped gifts underneath, each one bearing the names of the members of the mansion.

The Will has duplicated last year's celebration, and has once again invited the people of the city inside. Mingle, be merry, and enjoy the festivities.

And if you're not planning on going? The Will has replaced all of your clothes with nice, formal ones for the occasion. You might as well show up. Who know how long the peace will really last?

[ooc - Merry Yule, everyone!
Posted by: almost_knightly

Anyone who knows this Break at all will be shocked to find him out and about today. He doesn't go out in the cold -- he can't breathe very well in it, and spends the bulk of the winter season safely ensconced at home. He's been this way for what feels like forever, a sad side effect of that whole nasty episode some years back where one of his lungs grew a tumor in it and had to be chopped out. Hard to deal with thin, freezing air when you've only got one lung. At least he survived the time of his life when he was coughing up blood and so forth, which most of the other Breaks he's met are going through now. He tells himself that.

But! No need to console himself now! It would seem that one of the Will's gifts this year was an additional healthy lung for a certain someone, and since it's probably temporary, Break is taking full advantage of his newfound ability to go outside and breathe. He's already been very busy, doing some extra holiday shopping and invading Gilbertine's house to play with her kids, and generally going about making a nuisance of himself. But Break is not finished yet! He has to take Shelly on a really cheesy and romantic sleigh ride to make them both feel better about the fact that she died at the hands of a Kevin, find something suitably evil to do to Lacie just for funzies, maybe get in a fight now that he won't run out of breath too fast to really enjoy beating somebody up. There are all sorts of opportunities, and Break is more or less all over the place seeking them out.

The crash after this is probably going to be pretty spectacular. Oh well.

[Just some pre-Yule shenanigans with Dork here in ultra-troll mode. Set up the scene however you like; he's wandering everywhere. Late, slow, and backtags welcome as always!]

comments

sleeping beauty?

It's an Elliot.

He's older than most here, looks stronger and taller than the bunch as well. However, one could only see the blonde if they decided to open a closet.

In which they would find him, sleeping soundly. Peacefully.

Snoring.

(( OKAY. new elliot. he's from an au where he never met leo, so he never died! thus he's older and now the duke of nightray. ))

comments

the most wonderful time of the year

Posted by: willofthemansion

You didn't think you were getting out of it this year, did you mansion-dwellers?

Along with the cold comes the snow, and along with the snow comes these annoying little plants hidden away in doorways all over the mansion and other random spots in the city. Should you become stuck beneath one, the only thing that can free you is a kiss from another. Let's hope that the spirit of the season has put everyone in a more generous mood, or you might be stuck a while.

To make matters worse, the people of the city have begun decorating for the winter holiday season. Even the inside of the main mansion is wrapped in festive greenery. It might be a little more difficult to spot these things this time around...

But not everything is terrible. The Will is in a giving mood herself this year! You might wake up with a gift this morning yourself. Something you've wanted forever, something that's been lost, or something that's been taken away. Or maybe it's something that you absolutely don't want at all, but that's what re-gifting is for, right? Right?!

[ooc - another year, another yule! feel free to use this post for mistletoe shenanigans or to make your own! happy december!]

comments

The ball shifts and uncurls, stretching with a cute mew - it's a kitten, and a tiny one at that.

Something seems to flash in Elliot's eyes as the kitten moves. It's almost a sort of recognition, as if the haze in his thoughts was clearing away. Was this... something he liked once?

But then it's gone, and the haze returns, as does the gold to his eyes.

Still, he holds a hand out for the kitten to sniff, unaware of anyone else around him.]

((have a chain!elliot, fresh from the abyss. he's wearing the outfit seen here, by the amazing numi. hope this is ok.))

comments

Fire fire burning bright, someone forgot to put out a light

Posted by: boundbutnotheld

It was a right chilly afternoon, no matter how pretty it might have been with the light snowfall that wasn't yet sticking -well, in the areas around down. The mountains off in the distance and higher areas were likely covered in snow. In town it was just a pretty light snowfall, whispering of what would soon be coming to this mimicry of home.

Yet it was marred by thick black smoke billowing upwards into the sky, flames licking the side of an old building that had recently been abandoned near the square. A business had gone out of business, and the place was supposedly going to be used for something else soon. However, it seemed a good many of the homeless had taken it over untill then, and lucky find with how cold it had been growing at night.

There are reasons you don't start fires inside of buildings, no less fires contained within barrels. Not to mention throwing whatever you find inside into said fires in said barrels.

Raven had gotten himself a good seat just outside of a shop, sitting back with a still steaming mug of hot chocolate and some freshly made caramel corn. He was watching the flames slowly eat away at the building, even as the town fire-fighters were trying to contain and stop it from spreading to the building connected to it.

It was the explosion of those burning barrels that had attracted him at first, out shopping to restock a certain Break's kitchen, and it didn't take long for him to figure out what happened. After alerting the station, the Chain had settled where he was now.

He looked to be in a rather lightened mood as he sat there.

(OOC: Action or prose, both accepted! As always.)

comments
